Welcome to the Hideaway: Where Clay meets Chaos

Hello internet! I’m Dee—self-taught potter, coffee enthusiast, country music devotee, and proud resident of Wolverhampton with a studio that smells faintly of clay, ambition, and burnt toast (don’t ask).

Welcome to The Potters Hideaway, where mugs are born, mushrooms occasionally appear in ceramic form, and the soundtrack is 90% boot-scootin’ country and 10% me muttering “why won’t you centre, you stubborn lump.”

Clay by Day, Country by Heart

I throw pots while listening to country ballads that make me sculpt things I can’t explain. One time I made a mushroom with a cowboy hat, well at least I thought it was a hat. Another time, a highland coo emerged from a lump of clay like it had a personal vendetta against symmetry. I don’t question it anymore—I just go with it.

Also, I’ve learned that boot scootin’ while throwing is not a vibe. It’s a hazard. Don’t try it.

Why I’m Doing This (Possibly Foolish) Thing

Because apparently shouting “LOOK AT MY MUGS” on Instagram isn’t enough. Also, I wanted a place to share the behind-the-scenes chaos, the occasional triumph, and the weird things I say to my pots when no one’s listening. (Yes, I talk to them. No, they don’t talk back. Yet.)

I decided to open up my world—again, maybe foolishly, maybe bravely, maybe both. As Dolly Parton once said, “Find out who you are and do it on purpose.” So here I am, doing pottery on purpose, with questionable dance moves and a kiln that’s seen things.

Tips & Tricks? Not Really.

Unless you count “filling a kiln like a 12-year-old playing Tetris while blindfolded” as a tip. I won’t be giving tutorials, but I will share the chaos, the joy, and the occasional sheep-shaped surprise.

What You’ll See Here

  • Mushrooms with attitude

  • Highland coos that look mildly offended

  • Mugs that hold coffee and secrets and everything inbetween.

  • Studio updates, clay catastrophes, and maybe a few yee-haws

Let’s Be Friends

Whether you’re a fellow potter, a mug enthusiast, or someone who just wandered in looking for soup recipes (sorry, wrong kind of bowl), I’m glad you’re here. Stick around. Things are about to get muddy.
