About the Potters Hideaway and small batch ceramics
Hey there, I'm Dee, the hands ( and heart!) behind the Potters Hideaway. I'm a self taught ceramicist, Mom of four, wife and devoted cat Mom to three furry supervisors. You'll usually find me in my cozy garden cabin, with clay covered nails, a sketch in one hand, and a glaze brush in the other. I also have to admit, I love coffee a little too much and I procrastinate a lot. But it's in that beautiful, messy process that the magic happens.
This whole adventure began as a sanctuary - a hideaway from the everyday stresses. My 'lightbulb' moment came when I realised my home was filling quickly with my makes and it was time to share them. My first solo kiln firing was as nerve wracking as watching a child on their first day of nursery. I handed my lovingly made pieces over to the 'kiln-gods' at 1100'c, praying they came out better than they went in. And they did! From that day on, my kiln has been affectionately named Hermione, a nod to my inner Harry Potter fan.
One of a Kind
Each piece from The Hideaway is a little work of art, with no two ever being exactly the same. I'm a firm believer in the beauty of individuality. I draw my inspiration from the sounds and sights of nature right outside my cabin window, the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands and Islands, the peaceful Cornish coast, and the Welsh countryside. My hands throw and build mugs, quirky mushroom ornaments, coastal inspired lighthouses and delicate ring dishes to name a few. Everything is unique, giftable and designed to bring a little bit of joy into your day,
Quality
I pour a lot of love and care into every piece. I use high-quality earthenware clay and glazes, and each item is crafted to be personal, lasting treasure. You wont find mass produced ceramics here - just unique, small-batch collections that are full of character. I'm always experimenting with new glazes and designs to create beautiful items that are as durable as they are delightful.

I'm committed to shipping orders within 48hours, carefully wrapped in eco-friendly packaging to protect your precious pieces on their journey to you. For custom or made-to-order items, I ask for your patience - you cant rush a good thing after all! Please allow upto three weeks for me to make and ship your piece. My ultimate goal is to share my joy and creations with you, and I am so excited to have you join me on this journey.
My Creative Process
My business is very new, and honestly, so am I! There's something scarily brave about opening up my world to the world, but it's an adventure I'm thrilled to be on. I read a famous quote a few months ago that said " If you don't take risks, you will always work for someone that did " that there was my lightbulb moment!
Starting the Hideaway has been a little bit scary, a whole lot of fun and incredibly exciting.
